6023 on one of the spurs of the turntable at Didcot.
In its only foray into the open since substantial restoration, 6023, less tender (still being built at Severn Valley at this time) was shunted out of the restoration shed and put on display for project supporters and visitors to examine. |

6023's Left hand slide bars
These carry the crosshead, transmitting the power of the piston to a huge connecting rod that turns the centre wheels. |
|
|
|
6023's Right hand slide bars
Unlike the previous shot, this crosshead is connected to the wheels. |

From the cab roof.
This unusual view shows the top of the boiler, with the bonnet, single chimney, and Didcot turntable beyond. The metal cladding will cover the many bolier stays visible on the top of the firebox. |
