The fittings in the cab have taken many years of painstaking work, with fits and refits to juggle the requirements of modern systems such as TPWS. It is hoped these photographs give an impression of the work the team has done.

The cab virtually bare in 2003.

With the regulator handle and some early trial fittings.

Brake control in centre, oil gauge and reverser in red at right.

Work showing the backplate of the boiler, and gap for insulation.

Substantially complete

The reverser pedestal and handle. Regulator handle in foreground.

View with the cab roof removed.

Regulator in red, boiler water level gauge fittings and injector spindles at top.

Brake handle at right, gauges and regulator seen from close to driver's position.

Cab with tender in place.

Controls with cab removed.

Injector spindles and carriage warming cock.

Trial site for AWS/TPWS controls.

Testing the ergonomics - as can be seen this position obstructed the driver's line of sight.

Exhaust injector control.

Inside view of reverser pedestal.

Revised TPWS position. Boiler now removed for retubing.

Reverser pedestal from outside the cab front right.

Cab roof showing removeable section to meet National Rail loading gauge of 13'1"

On reflection we found that we banged our heads on this AWS/TPWS fitting whilst checking the reverser position. It needed to go higher.

Whilst this was an excellent position for the driver whilst sitting, it was too low to avoid some banged heads.

Part of the TPWS gear.
