6023's first preservation outing in blue, with tender, on the turntable at Didcot. Right hand driving wheels. The 130 headcode is for the Cornish Riviera Express, which 6023 would have hauled many times. Your webmaster and son, both volunteers on the project.
Compare with earlier shots from similar angles in 2003 & at Barry. The reason engine and tender are different shades of blue is that the tender has been rubbed down between coats. The engine only has its first blue coat. Not 6023's smoke yet, but drifting smoke from an engine on the branch line gave this opportunity. Note the gap between the tender roof and spectacle plate, just back from the whistle. This is where we must lose four inches in height if we are ever to go out on National Rail with 6023.
